We are so exited about the new book coming out this autumn! It’s all about the children and what you can make for them. We must admit this is turning out to be a very cute book, difficult not to smile as we are currently working on the content. You will find dolls, animals, cozy quilts, patchwork projects, and ideas for cute children’s rooms.

You can already pre-order the norwegian edition “Sy til barn” at the larger Norwegian online book shops, Haugenbok will also be able to send Norwegian books abroad.

The english edition “Tilda’s Toy Box” is available for pre-order at Stitch Craft Create, Amazone.com and Amazone.co.uk.

It might seem like a long time to wait but time flies, and before you know it a fun summer is over and a new book is in your mailbox.

Here is a very early preview of the cover sketches for the English and Norwegian edition.
This project has been the perfect excuse for a bunch of grown ladies to play, so much fun!

The fabrics used in the book are from the upcoming autumn collections. Available from the middle of august.

Cosy Christmas Stockings

Add a personal touch to your Christmas decor with large cosy and comforting Christmas stockings.
Full of candy and gifts they will also make a sweet and unique gift for family and friends.

When the stockings are finished with folded edges they measure 55 cm (22in)
We used the “Sweetheart” fabric collection, quilt wadding, off-white quilt fabric for the lining, and “Sweetheart” buttons with spots for decoration”.

Christmas-Stockings-1

Print the two parts for the pattern:
Christmas Stocking Pattern 1 and Christmas Stocking Pattern 2.
Add 15 cm (6in) to the length of the stocking between the pattern pieces, see figure A.

Make a paper template by gluing the pieces together, and cut out the full stocking shape.

Cut two opposite/reversed stocking pieces in the stocking fabric, lining fabric and wadding.

If you want to quilt the stockings as we have done here you will also need two pieces in backing fabric. Add a large seem allowance to all the pieces.
The backing will not be visible in the end, so you can use any old fabric.

Patchwork stocking
The patchwork stocking is made out of 3in (7,5 cm) squares. Seem allowance is included so when sewn into the patchwork the squares are 2,5in (6,25 cm).
Sew together enough squares to cover the pattern and seem allowance for each of the stocking pieces, and continue as you would with a simple stocking piece.

Attach the wadding to the back of the stocking pieces, and the backing fabric on the other side of the wadding. You can use a basting spray or stitch a large seem along the edge.

Quilt the stocking pieces by hand or sewing machine, see figure B.

Christmas-stockings-3

Place the lining and stocking pieces right side together.
Trace or refresh the pattern onto the lining piece and sew along the scalloped edge. See figure C.

Cut any extra seem allowance only along the scalloped edge, and make small notches between the bows. Be sure not to cut into the seem. See figure D.

Place the two sewn-together parts right sides together. Trace or refresh the pattern drawing on the stocking part, and sew around. Leave a reverse opening in the lining part, see figure E.

Christmas-Stockings-4

Cut any extra seem allowance and make notches in the seem allowance where the seem curves inwards.
Turn the stocking inside out. Use a flower stick or similar to turn the scalloped edge.

Push the lining into the stocking part. (If you need to iron turn the stocking and iron from the lining side to avoid damaging the quilt effect.)
Fold down the edge, see picture of stockings.

Christmas-Stockings-2

Loop
Cut a 3.5 x 20 cm (1,3/8 x 8in) strip for the loop.
Fold and iron each short end approximately 1 cm (3/8in) inwards.

Fold and iron approximately 7 mm (1/4in) inwards along each long side, then fold and iron the strip in half so that it will become approximately 1 cm (3/8in) wide.
Stitch up the open side by hand or machine.

Fold the loop and tack the ends to the inside of the stocking.
Buttons are sweet decor along the scalloped edge.

Pardon My Garden Quilt – Free Pattern!

The Pardon My Garden quilt is a classic design made up of diamonds and looks wonderful in any setting.
The diamonds are framed by narrow strips of off white, witch makes them “float” within the setting.

We used all of the 12 Pardon My Garden Fabrics and off-white quilt fabric for the quilt top. You will find a detailed list of materials in the explanation.

The explanation for this quilt (and many Tilda quilts to come) is written by our new friend and collaborator Linda Clements. Many of you know her as the woman behind “The Quilter’s Bible”.
Her talent for explanations and step-by-step illustrations is just amazing!

Here is the Pardon My Garden Quilt and Pardon My Garden – Diamond Template.

Pretty fabric pictures

It’s not easy to take simple beautiful and informative pictures of fabric. And we love these pretty pictures of the spring collections by Sündenherz.de.
We just had to borrow them for the blog.

It’s always fun to combine fabric in different ways from both collections to make a perfect color scheme for a project. Greens from the Pardon My Garden Collection with the pinks and off whites from The Spring Diaries collection gives you a classic spring/summer color combination as seen here.
By just using the honey colours, pink and off whites from Spring Diaries you get a much calmer look than with the teal colored fabrics. Nothing is more comforting and safe than warm colors and pinks. Thank you Sünderherz for these lovely pictures.

Our rustic country inspired red and blue summer collection “Candy Bloom” arrives in stores this week.

Picture a summer evening on a rustic porch or a barn dance, homemade pie, fresh berries and whipped crème.
These images was the inspiration for The Candy Bloom collection.
The classic darker reds and blues reminds us of childhood summers in the countryside. The fabrics with small folklore inspired flower motives are perfect for rustic porch quilts and large pillows.

The pattern for the flag garland quilt called “The Candy Bloom Quilt” will soon be released on the blog as a free pattern.
The pillow top is made with 36 – 4,5 in squares (seem allowance included).

Fabric Glue Pen

When meeting with our lovely customers a few weeks ago we discovered that some of them did not know about the fabric glue pen that is a must when paper piecing. We would certainly struggle if trying to paper piece or do paper appliqué without it, so here is a reminder of how easy it is to use.

Paper piecing is such a fun process but tacking the seam allowance around the edge of a paper shape can be time-consuming and fiddly. However, with our handy glue pen you just apply glue along the edge of the pre-cut paper pieces and press the seam allowance around the edge.

By the time your project is sewn together the glue will have dried and you can simply remove the paper pieces.
You will find detailed instructions in the paper piece packages.

The photographs here show red and pink paper-pieced balls in the making. So grab your glue pen and have a great day!

A few days ago our talented distributer Flowerquilt sent lots of beautiful pictures showing what’s going on with Tilda in China, and we are so happy to hear it’s going very well!
We cannot resist showing you pictures from The Ququ Patchwork Studio in Jinan city in the Shandong province.
The studio owner Ququ makes these wonderful patchwork and appliqué bags and purses among other things, and organizes workshops.

You can check out her blog here and get inspired. We wish we where in Jinan city right now, this looks so inspiring!

Ququ-Patchwork-Studio

We love how Ququ used Lecien fabric with soft nature prints in the background as a contrast to the Tilda fabrics. It takes a trained eye to think up this kind of combination.
